Following the initial structural inspection, which revealed damage to the weld seams, a comprehensive overhaul was required. As part of the works, around 25 meters of weld seams were renewed to ensure the long term stability and operational safety of the bridge.
The reinstallation placed high demands on planning, logistics, and coordination within ongoing port operations. This was followed by successful test runs and trial operations before full clearance for shipping and road traffic was granted on Saturday at around 1:00 pm.
The main contractor for the project was TSU GmbH on behalf of bremenports. It was responsible for the removal of the counterweights, the dismantling of the counterweight beam, as well as the subsequent steel and mechanical engineering works.
Several subsidiaries of the Heinrich Rönner Group were also involved, including:
- BVT Chartering and Logistics – transport of the counterweight beam by pontoon, tug, and floating crane
- Rupertus Strako – sandblasting and preservation
With the successful completion of this construction phase, an important contribution has been made to the long term safeguarding of a key transport link in the New Harbour of Bremerhaven.
