SAILING SHIP “ALEXANDER VON HUMBOLDT II”
Although tall ships are rarely built from scratch these days, we embarked on an extraordinaryproject in 2010: the complete construction of the three-masted barque Alexander von Humboldt II.
The 65-meter-long and 10-meter-wide hull was built at our subsidiary, BVT Bremen GmbH & Co. KG. The tall ship was then fitted with masts, yards, rigging, sails, and all necessaryequipment at our Stahlbau Nord GmbH facility in Bremerhaven.
Like its legendary predecessor—the world-famous “Old Alex”—the new Alexander von Humboldt II also serves as a youth and training ship as part of the Sail Training program. Since 2015, the “Alex II” has once again been sailing the world’s oceans with itscharacteristic green sails.
MEGAYACHT “SOLARIS”
The expedition motor yacht SOLARIS was built in 2021 by Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven and, with a length of 139.7 m and a gross tonnage of 11,247 GT, ranks among the largest and mostmodern superyachts in the world.
A striking arch spans the light gray hull and white superstructure—the yacht’s iconic design feature, created by Studio Marc Newson Ltd.
MEGAYACHT “LUNA”
More than a decade after our subsidiary Stahlbau Nord had completed all steelwork for theexplorer yacht Le Grand Bleu (LGB), we once again put our expertise to work: With thenewly built superyacht Luna, another outstanding explorer yacht was launched.
The Luna, designed by the renowned design firm Newcruise and built by Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven, benefited from the many years of experience and high quality standards we hadestablished during the construction of the LGB.
Stahlbau Nord handled all the steelwork.
HYBRID FERRIES FOR HAMBURG
The HADAG hybrid ferries “Neuland,” “Finkenwerder,” and “Grasbrook” mark an importantstep toward low-emission mobility in the Port of Hamburg. The approximately 33-meter-long plug-in hybrid ferries can accommodate up to 250 passengers and reduce exhaust emissionsby up to 70%. Thanks to their efficient propulsion system, narrow bow, and optimizedboarding areas, they enable faster passenger turnover and shorten travel times from 15 to 10 minutes. Built by SET in Tangermünde, the three vessels entered service in 2024 and represent innovative, sustainable shipping on the Elbe.
MEKO A200 FRIGATES
The Egyptian Navy had commissioned thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) to build fourMEKO A200 frigates.
The first three ships of this modern frigate class were built in Bremerhaven. The first ship was launched on April 27, 2021, and was handed over to the Egyptian Navy after a constructionperiod of just 39 months. The third ship was delivered in August 2023.
With this achievement, Stahlbau Nord set the world record for the fastest construction of a MEKO A200 frigate—an impressive testament to German engineering and the high efficiencyof modern shipbuilding.
RORO VESSEL “SEAROAD I”
FSG Shipyard GmbH is built the new RoRo vessel SEAROAD I for SeaRoad.
With a length of 210 meters, a width of 29.3 meters, and a gross tonnage of 43,080, the vessel is the largest ship built for SeaRoad to date. The modern LNG propulsion system contributes to more environmentally friendly operations and supports the sustainable development of freight transport between Tasmania and the Australian mainland.
