Polarstern stops for maintenance at Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven
The Alfred Wegener Institute's research vessel Polarstern comes to Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven twice a year. The ship is currently being technically repaired and modernized for future expeditions.
The regular shipyard visits serve to check the technical condition and carry out necessary maintenance and modernization work in order to ensure the operational readiness of the ship.
Among other things, the following work is being carried out during the current visit:
Replacement of several coolers,
Pulling both shafts to overhaul the shaft seals,
General overhaul of the bow thruster,
maintenance of various fittings and valves,
various steel work,
as well as the renewal of the chimney cladding.
The measures carried out will ensure that the Polarstern can continue to be used reliably for research missions in the polar regions. Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven and the Alfred Wegener Institute are thus successfully continuing their long-standing cooperation.
