210 Ton Liebigbrücke successfully moved to its final position

On 30 July 2019, the Liebigbrücke in Greiz was transported across the White Elster to its final position following a multi-week course of preparation and pre-assembly.

The bridge, which was built by Roßlauer Schiffswerft, measures 50 meters in length and weighs in at 210 tons; it consists of two solid longitudinal beams and 17 cross beams.

After pre-assembly, the bridge was placed on steel stanchions, lifted with the help of hydraulic stage lifts and set onto SPMTs (multi-axle self-propelled modular transports). The SPMTs then moved the structure into the assembly position. The large steel structure was then moved along its longitudinal axis across a temporary counter bearing in the direction of the opposite bank. The front part of the bridge was kept in suspension by a 750-ton crane located on the opposite bank.

The works, which were observed by a large number of spectators, where finished after approximately three hours.
